Starfallen, Act I Story Notes

I: Evocation

Lyrics:
Domus Dei “House of God”
Stella Puer “Star Child”
Dona Nobis Pacem “Bring us peace”

Characters:
Father Carmach
Cult Members

Location:
Uncharted Planet
Called “Site 4 by the Cult”

A cult hidden deep away on a deserted planet works to awaken one of their gods, the creatures that fell from the heavens. The monks of the planet had unearthed it, wounded it. They knew not that it still lived. The cult did though, and they work tirelessly to keep it that way.

II: Oblation

Lyrics:

Venit Ecce Mors “Death is coming”
Puer Stellarum “Star Child”
Female vocals are actually Chinese, but I reversed them/messed with them so they are alien and not translatable
Characters:
Cult Members/Priests
High Ranking Cult Scientists

Location:
Gillean’s home planet
Called “Site 7” by the cult

The cult is awakening the dormant alien that fell from the stars hundreds of years ago. They rejoice and pray for it to take its rightful place and smite the ones above, to let them join in a grand evolution. Their god does as they ask, destroying the cities and people above. It does not stop there though, it destroys everything, leaving not even a planet behind.

(There is a subset of the cultists that are not in agreement on awakening a fully mature alien. They attempt to speak with it but cannot understand it’s words. The God does what they want, but it is more like the enactment of a computer code. It does not even register them really. Half the song is the ritual itself (The cover art) the female vocals are them communicating, and the metal part is the destruction of the planet)
III: Ground Zero

Characters:
Gillean
Mature Alien

Location:
“Site 7” ruins/open space

Gillean, a soldier, is sent to his home planet to find out why they have been radio silent for the last few weeks. He takes the long trek through space to get to it and finds nothing but space debris. He realizes his family and planet are gone. He sees the silhouette of some massive creature stalking him, but it disappears before he can investigate.

IV: Lazarus Deep

Characters: Gillean Evelyn Markowicz (In the form of logs) Location: The Lazarus, cult laboratory ship stationed near “Site 4”. This is the ship where they monitored the planet below and Father Carmach sought to protect the infant alien. He let the Monks be but always had his eye on them. Knowing that they would fall to it. This song takes place after "Ground Zero". Gillian tries to seek answers to why his planet was destroyed. He tracks down an abandoned cult lab in the far reaches of space. This song is his descent into the mysteries and horror of the alien lifeforms that burrowed deep inside of various planets. He learns that the cult is more widespread than just one planet. They seek to awaken all of the alien lifeforms.
The lab itself was run by cultists and Gillean used his military clearances to intercept broadcasts and find it after weeks of trying to figure out what happened. He finds logs about the cults plans, and how they almost felt a “call” to awaken the aliens once they came into contact with them. Even worlds apart they could feel it crawling through their skulls. A whisper. The cult scientists worked tirelessly for decades to figure out a way to awaken them. The last log shows plans of a subset of priests about to awaken the one on Gillian’s planet. “Site 7 “. (There are female vocals here. This is remnants of “the voice” the scientists had heard from the infant alien below. They had all killed themselves after being driven mad except for Father Carmach who had given himself fully to the creature while investigating it. He had his own goals of ascending beyond humankind by fusing his mind with the alien creature) (Dr. Evelyn Markowicz, age 25, served aboard The Lazarus as the vessel’s Senior Research Officer for Behavioral Observation (SRO). Officially, she worked to ensure morale and health of the crew, both mental and physical. Unofficially, she was responsible for monitoring personnel, suppressing dangerous questions, and studying the effects of the alien influence on them, per Carmach’s orders. This was a role that the crew had no idea of. Gillean's finds her audio and written logs as he traverses the ship).
V: Code: Praxis

Characters:
Gillean
Mature Alien

Location:
Open Space outside “The Lazarus”

Gillean leaves the cult ship from "Lazarus Deep" and is immediately attacked by the eldritch god. He sees firsthand the power it wields. Gillean goes into survival mode, utilizing his military training, yet just barely manages to survive. He crash lands on a nearby planet at the end of the song.

This song is all about storytelling through music. Gillean never fully sees the mature alien. The choir opening is it emerging from the blackness of space around The Lazarus and setting it’s gaze on Gillean’s ship as it leaves. It feels the lingering presence of those that had awoken it. The same presence from Gillean’s ship. It fires a beam of energy at it. This is where the metal part comes in. Gillean tries to evade but is continually assaulted from something he cannot see. He hears the cries of something, almost like a sea creature wailing not only physically but in his mind as well. Eventually he positions his ship behind the Lazarus to evade view.

This is the heavy and static part of the song after the quiet. The mature alien charges a blast of energy and obliterates The Lazarus, Gillean caught in the blast, his ship flailing and smoking as it hurdles into the nearby planet’s “Site 4” atmosphere.

The creepy part now plays with the female singing. This is Gillean only catching a glimpse of it’s eye watching from behind the remains of The Lazarus. The only glimpse of the creature he sees as his ship crash lands down on the planet below.
